What Is IFRS 16?

IFRS 16 Leases, issued by the International Accounting Standards Board (IASB) and effective from 1 January 2019, fundamentally changed the way lessees account for leases. Under the previous standard (IAS 17), operating leases were kept off the balance sheet, masking the true extent of a company's financial obligations.
